STEPHANIE • A One Day Bride

For Stephanie and Matt, their wedding was all about celebrating with excellent food and wine. Having both grown up in Hobart it was important to have all of their friends and family with them in a place they love dearly.

BRIDE… Stephanie Wilson

GROOM… Matt Symons

WEDDING DATE… 19th March 2016

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

We met five years ago at a bar in Melbourne through mutual friends.

LOCATION

Bangor Wine and Oyster Shed, Dunalley, Tasmania

We wanted the wedding to showcase Tassie and Bangor has such a beautiful view and is set in a gorgeous location, plus they work with Smolt who has amazing food.

Matt and I live in Melbourne but I grew up in Hobart and we actually got engaged on the East Coast of Tassie so it’s a special place to us. I loved the idea of having all our family and friends from Melbourne in Hobart with us for the whole weekend and we wanted to showcase Tassie with amazing food and wine.

STYLING

We were lucky enough to have Bek Burrows as our stylist

We wanted a beautiful room filled with white flowers and to showcase the amazing view.

I sent Bek photos of ideas I liked and she designed everything and it came out perfectly. We had gorgeous white lights hanging over the tables and festoon lights along the deck outside.

We did a feast style reception where the food was placed in the middle of the table and guests chose what they liked to eat. Then we had roving desserts such as churros when everyone was up dancing.

We didn’t want the wedding to be too traditional just really wanted it to be more like a party, most people were up dancing before they had even eaten their mains.

It also helped that our friend Andy K was our DJ so he knew exactly what music to play.

NON-NEGOTIABLE

Food and wine. As most of our guests were from Melbourne and a lot had not been to Tassie before we really wanted to ensure we showcased Tassie, with great food and wine.

CELEBRANT: Rachael Calvert

PHOTOGRAPHY: Jonathan Wherrett

My bridesmaid, Karla, recommended Jonathan to me as she had worked with Jonathan on other weddings in Hobart,

THE DRESS

All I knew before trying dresses on was I wanted to low back, other than that I really wasn’t sure so I was open minded. On the day I tried on all different styles of dresses with Kyha. The one I ended up choosing was the first one I tried on, I think you just know when it’s the right one. I had my mum and grandma with me on the day to help me choose.

HAIR: Gabi from Naked Salon

MAKE UP: Tanya from Sharkra

SHOES: Tony Bianco, nude heels

BRIDESMAIDS

I had three bridesmaids and their dresses were Zimmerman, I wanted all the girls in white and was lucky to find a beautiful Zimmerman dress that suited.

GROOMSMEN: Brent Wilson at QV

FLOWERS: Bek Burrows, completed all our flowers, bouquets and styling

Our room had a lot of timber so wanted to break up the room with a lot of different white flowers with green foliage.

HENS DAY ANTICS

My bridesmaids organised a weekend for me, where they rented an apartment in Southbank we had our hair and make up done and then went to the Emerson where we met friends and family, we made cocktails and danced away.

WORDS OF WISDOM

There is such a build up to the wedding day and then the day goes by so quickly so to just enjoy every moment and to have fun.
