REAL BRIDE • Ella
A Fiji wedding with white sandy beaches and turquoise water, Mana Island was the perfect location for this celebration. Embracing the tropics Ella and James created a beautifully personalised wedding for their guests to enjoy whilst on holiday. Dressed in a custom designed One Day Gown, we think Ella made a perfect bride.
BRIDE… Ella Hunt
GROOM… James Gladman
WEDDING DATE… 17 October 2015
WHEN AND HOW WE MET
We met over five years ago I was studying nursing and working as a sales associate in Bendigo. James had worked and lived in Bendigo for a few years however we hadn’t ever crossed paths until 2010. We started dating shortly after that initial meeting and moved in together about twelve months later.
In 2014 we went on a holiday to Palm Cove. The second we checked into our apartment James proprosed. He was too excited to wait for the walk we were about to go on along the beach. It was perfect and intimate and I wasn’t expecting it. He had brought the ring serveral months before but wanted to do it in Palm Cove, which was really sweet.
OUR WEDDING LOCATION
We went to Fiji for our first overseas holiday together and fell in love with the relaxed, friendly Fijian culture and of course their beautiful islands. We always said after that holiday that one day we would get married in Fiji.
After we got engaged we flew to Fiji for a couple of nights and had a look at some wedding venues. James really wanted white sandy beaches and turqouise waters so the minute we got to Mana Island we fell in love especially after seeing the stunning white chapel overlooking the water.
We were really lucky to get one hundred of our amazing family and friends to come. To have all the family on a holiday together was incredible and they were glad to have an excuse for a holiday as well.
I am obsessed with gold so it was a must to have it in our colour scheme. As gold is such a statement colour we paired it with neutrals, blush, nude, and white.
We had a stylist team from Fiji called Grace Creations, Aka was incredible, anything I wanted she made sure she could provide. We communicated mainly on Facebook. I had trouble with the idea of handing the job to someone else because I felt it was so important and I wanted it to look a certain way. Aka exceeded all my expectations it was more amazing than I ever imagined.
We also had a wedding planner on the island who helped set up and pack up and also followed along the whole day/night to make sure everything ran smoothly.
I used instagram and pinterest for inspiration alot. I spent countless hours getting ideas and screenshots from previous weddings, styling companies and blogs. A few of my faves were: The Style Co, Cosmo Bride, I was married in Fiji, and Bula Bride.
THE BEST ADVICE I WAS GIVEN
The best advice we were given was to have a few moments together alone with no photographers or anyone around. The day goes by so quickly and you are so busy trying to catchup with your guests its hard to get a moment with your new husband/wife.
WHAT WAS YOUR NON NEGOTIABLE FOR THE DAY?
I had two things I had to have no matter the cost. The first was a videographer. I had seen several wedding videos that had brought me to tears. I knew the day would fly by and wanted something to capture the feelings and emotions on the day. More than the photos can. Its a must have and I am so glad we did.
The second was Kayla Bombardier personalised candles for our wedding favours. I have always loved her candles and the beautiful boxes and bows they come with. They looked incredible on the tables and smelt amazing. We had french vanilla and pink peony.
My maids arranged my ‘hens in the city’ in Melbourne. We started off at one of maid’s house for drinks, nibbles and games. Then we went on the bus to Melbourne. We were dropped of at Transport bar where the girls had an area booked out for us. We drank, had nibbles and played a few games with a ‘Sex in the City’ theme. We then got picked up by a pink hummer limo, which drove us around the city for an hour or so. Our final stop before the bus ride home was a cute little boutique bar in St Kilda called The Birdcage. They had a spot for us near the Dj with amazing cheese. We drank cocktails and danced the night away.
I was spoilt rotten by the girls. It was such a fun day.
BRIDE’S SUPPLIERS OF CHOICE
CEREMONY: Mana Island Fiji
RECEPTION STYLING: Grace Creations Fiji
PHOTOGRAPHY: Zoom Fiji
We chose to use Zoom Fiji for both photography and videography. Bruce and Bianca are New Zealanders living in Fiji with years of experience and come highly recommended. They were amazing to deal with the whole way through.
On the day Bruce and the boys were so relaxed and fun, which made us all comfortable and relaxed as well. I honestly cannot fault them, they are amazing at what they do and were are so soo happy with our photos and video.
Fashion is a big part of my life, and very important to me so I knew I wanted something modern and unique, which is why I chose to get a custom One Day Bridal dress.
I didn’t bother going to any other bridal stores as I had been following One Day on Instagram for a while and was always blown away by your work.
The intricate detailing that went into the lace on my dress was incredible. You girls are magic!
HEADPIECE: Viktoria Novak custom made ‘Isabella’ headpiece
HAIR & MAKE UP: Kristie Hedington hair and makeup
I flew Kristie over to do our hair and makeup and I’m so glad I did. Kristie is from Bendigo and had been doing my hair previously. She is a mobile hair and makeup artist and is amazing at what she does. She did both hair and makeup for all six of us.
I am a Tony Bianco girl and always have been so it was only fitting I wore them on our wedding day. I needed something strappy with an open toe for the hot weather and beach.
I had four bridesmaids; my sister, two girlfriends, and my sister in law.
The girls wore nude Elle Zeitoune dresses. I first saw them on their Instagram page and emailed them to see if they could cater for the four girls. The girls at Elle Zeitoune were amazing and even had one of the dresses made again in a size they had sold out of.
We got the boys tailored French cuff shirts from Briggins. Laura is incredible she is a travelling tailor who comes to your house. It was so easy to arrange fittings with the boys at our house and Laura was very flexible. Not only is she great at what she does but she is also a beautiful person.
The boys suit pants were from Roger David, along with James’ vest, tan shoes and belt. The boy’s shoes were from the Iconic, online.
I wanted a vibrant troical Fijian flower. We chose Pink Gingers and they are even more beautiful in real life. Grace Creations also supplied the bouquets and buttonholes.
STATIONARY: Lauren Dillon designs
We had gold foil pressed personalised menus for our guests, which looked amazing. Lauren did all our stationary from our engagement to our wedding. Her attention to detail is amazing!
YOUR ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES
Relax and enjoy it! It is the most magical day of your life but it goes by incredibly fast.
Enjoy the special moments with your new hubby, family and friends.
I highly recommend getting a viedographer to capture all the special moments.
