Emma • A One Day Bride

At first, Emma was skeptical about having ‘that moment’ when looking for her wedding dress. However, upon walking into the One Day Studio and trying on our Estelle gown, Emma knew it was THE one!

BRIDE’S FULL NAME: Emma Barbuscio

WEDDING DATE: Saturday 6th February 2016

It all began when Joe was in year 12 and I was in year 11. We had known each other for years before that because he was one of my good friends brothers! We always saw each other out and about and couldn’t deny there was always a spark between us. Six years later Joe’s parents purchased a beach house in Safety Beach only a few houses down from my family’s beach house. Was this fate or what?! One night Joe and I went out for dinner and from that night on we never looked back. Three years after that he took me to Dromana pier got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife!

We chose to have our reception at Carousel, Albert Park Lake. We always wanted to celebrate our wedding at a venue that was near the water. Being around water reminds Joe and I of our love blossoming and sharing memorable times with our family and friends at the beach. The Carousel offered the beautiful lake and city skyline, which took our breath away. The staff at Carousel went above and beyond their call of service to ensure our night and our guest’s night was nothing short of perfect.

Joe and I went for an elegant and timeless theme for our wedding. We achieved this by having a clear picture in our minds and on paper of what we both wanted to see at our Church and Reception. We met with Belinda from The Three Piece Suit who listened to what we wanted and offered great suggestions. When Belinda sent through our inspiration presentation it was everything we wanted and more. She included our colour scheme of neutral colours and nailed the brief of our reception looking light, fresh, elegant and timeless.

My sister gave me the best advice when she said, “The day is about you and Joe so be true to each other, what you both want and your day will be perfect.” My bridesmaids also kept me grounded, often reminding me of the bigger picture “Marriage” it’s not only about one day it’s also about the start of the rest of your lives. In other words, don’t sweat the small stuff because in the big picture, it really is just small stuff.

Our non negotiable for our wedding day was to make sure we stopped and soaked it all in. Everyone says the wedding day goes by so fast so we wanted to make sure we enjoyed every moment. After our Church ceremony we organized to have lunch with our bridal party at KereKere Green in the Fitzroy gardens. James the owner was absolutely incredible and made sure we ate, kept hydrated and relaxed. Here we sat, ate, laughed and relaxed with our bridal party. We loved the down time and each other’s company on our special day.

My bridesmaids were incredible and organised a Vegas themed hens night at the Cullen Hotel function room with my family and closets friends. After playing casino games, dancing, eating and drinking we made our way across the road to The Emerson where we danced the night away. It’s a night I’ll always remember.

I met Samantha at my sisters wedding and always remembered her attention to detail and sweet nature. I contacted Samantha and was so ecstatic when she told me she was free and would love to capture our special day. We loved working with Samantha because she was easy going, amazing at her work and allowed us to be “us” on our wedding day.

VIDEO: Stu Art Media

We meet Stu at my sister-in-laws wedding and loved the way he captured moments without the camera being “in your face.” We always wanted our wedding day captured by video so we could remember it forever. Stu and his team did an amazing job!

Finding my perfect dress was a longer process then what I hoped and imagined. So many people kept saying to me “don’t worry, when you find THE dress you just know.” After looking around for a while I booked an appointment at One Day Bridal. I stepped into my appointment and looked through the dresses in awe. I had never seen so many beautiful dresses in one boutique. I tried on the Estelle dress and in an instant all those people were right…I just knew it was THE one! After trying it on a few times Kyha helped me changed some aspects to create a custom version. My favorite fitting was when the girls were placing the lace on my gown piece by piece then hooked the detachable skirt onto my gown. It was like a puzzle coming together right before my eyes, their attention to detail was absolute perfection. I can’t thank the ODB team enough for their dedication, care and guidance in creating my perfect dress!

SHOES: Jimmy Choo

I wanted to be comfortable and be able to wear my wedding shoes again. I went with a strappy gold/ silver foil shoe with a medium heel and was in them from morning till night.

I had 3 bridesmaids and the most important thing was that they felt comfortable. My maid of honor sent me a photo of the dress and I fell in love. At that time it was hard to find the dress in Melbourne so I ordered them online. They arrived within a week and looked amazing on all the girls!

FLOWERS: Flair flowers and Design in Richmond.

I have always love orchards, roses and greenery. For our bonbonniere each family received a white orchard plant so I wanted to keep with the theme. Aly was amazing and I put my full trust into her decisions and designs. On the morning of the wedding I was probably most excited to see our flowers!

CAKE: Dolcefantasia

We wanted something simple, yet elegant and delicious! Our cake had 3 flavors chocolate mud, vanilla mud and marble. It was a combination of solid fondant and semi naked icing.

BAND: Jason Herrah and Paris Zachariou

To kick-start our night we had Jason Herrah open the dance floor and continued to play for our first dance bracket. He was amazing, a true entertainer! Paris was our MC and entertainment for the remainder of the night, he had MC’ed at both my brother’s weddings and has became like family. A true gentleman and amazing entertainer!

For my kitchen tea I had a registry. It was great because I choose what I wanted for our house, which was still being renovated at the time. Now, I use my gifts every day and love that they have a sentimental meaning to them. For our wedding we didn’t include a wishing well card or make mention of any form of gifts. The majority of people gave us a donation to put towards our future and others kept the registry number and purchased gifts that were still available.

INVITATIONS: Araz Manjikian

Araz from Carded is an incredible graphic designer and friend. Araz designed all our stationery and it was exactly what we hoped for. From our invitations to table numbers, everything flowed and had meticulous detail. Araz worked tirelessly and to tight timelines without a fuss. I can’t thank her enough!

Tuula from TP makeup artistry was incredible! I was so worried our makeup was going to melt off (as it was a 34 degree day) but we did not re-apply once and our makeup looked flawless all day. With her own line of cosmetics, calm nature and attention to detail, Tuula is a true makeup artist, simply amazing! I highly recommend her to EVERY bride in Melbourne and beyond.

HAIR: Linda

Linda from Linda Lee hair salon was at my house at 6am and managed to complete six amazing looks and was out by 10am. Linda is incredible at hair up, blow waves even cut and colour. Thank you Linda!
