Finding a wedding dress doesn’t always happen the way you imagine. This was the same story of our bride Lisa. With a vision of what she wanted captured through her inspiration images, nothing had quiet compared to what she had envisioned. Until fate had it’s way and the very day before her last consultation, our Arabella wedding dress was completed. From the moment she looked back at her reflection in the mirror, a statement high neck, made from the finest guipure lace, Lisa knew this was the one.

BRIDE… Lisa Diluvio

GROOM … Daniel Sortino

WEDDING DATE… 13/03/2015

We met at university where we both studied science photography. I was running over an hour late to my first class as I couldn’t find the building, I finally found the room and asked the first person I saw if I had found the Science Photography tutorial – it was Daniel and he proceeded to make fun of me for being late, what a keeper!!! We were part of a small course, which was great because we all got to know each other really well. Daniel and I became really close in our final year, we kept finding excuses to spend time together, but it wasn’t until after we had finished the course that he made his move. We had our 8-year anniversary the week of the wedding.

Circa was the perfect venue for us. We knew from the very beginning we wanted a roof top venue with enough space to host the ceremony and reception. Our first apartment together was in St Kilda so we felt a special connection to the beach and streets and Circa provided the perfect vantage point for views over both and the AMAZING sunset.

The style of the wedding was quite simple with a mix of elements. We let the venue dictate a lot of the choices we made. Our ceremony and reception were in the evening so lighting was really important. Floating candles in the pool and hand painted glass jars on the tables and bar created the intimate feel we were after. Tori from Tori Allen Events did an absolutely stellar job of transforming our reference images into beautiful festoon lighting that connected the inside and outside spaces. We based our floral colour on the boys suits and girls dresses. Again Tori turned our ideas and inspiration into a creative brief that went above and beyond what we thought was possible. The square arch that we stood under for the ceremony was such a highlight for us, the subtle colours blended with the beautiful trees from the streets below.

The Lane – so many beautiful dreamy editorials

Hello May – lots of real brides and stunning locations

And of course One Day Bridal’s Pinterest account was a never ending source of inspiration for me for styling, lighting and of course the dress.

Invest, in a florist and an event company who are passionate about what they do and they will completely transform a space!!

Get as much done as you can as EARLY as you can in the process. There are so many little things that pop up during the last few weeks and if you have a handle on things early on you can take a breath and enjoy the weeks leading up to the big day. It goes by so fast!!

Another golden piece of advice, when people offer to help – take them up on it!!

Having a Videographer and photographer was definitely a must for us and I’m so happy we did. We worked with two friends in the business, Mitch Bear our photographer and Carlo Peritore our videographer. They both documented the day in beautiful and unique way completely different to one another. Its’ been such a blessing to be able to relive the day from two different points of view.

My beautiful mum and bridesmaids put on a high tea for close friends and family in the afternoon. Afterwards all the young ones headed out to St Kilda for a dance and many, many cocktails!!

CEREMONY VENUE: Circa Rooftop at the Prince

We worked with Tori Allen of Tori Allen Events for our flowers and lighting. She was absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

CELEBRANT: Julie Wiltshire

PHOTOGRAPHY: Mitch Bear Photography

We wanted a natural (no poses!) approach to our photos, we’ve known Mitch and LOVED his editorial work for years, as soon as we got engaged we didn’t even give it a second thought!

VIDEO: Carlos’ works for a friends Wedding blew us away and we knew it was something worth stretching the budget for!

Finding the dress was not an easy process in the beginning for me, I had a pile of reference pictures that I loved but they were all from the red carpet rather than of Bridal Gowns. I knew going down the traditional route wasn’t for me. After visiting countless boutiques and websites a friend recommended One Day. After three visits trying on different styles, I tried on a sample that had been completed the day before, Arabella. It was EXACTLY what I was after. I remember Mum and I squealing as soon as we left because we both knew it was THE ONE.

The veil was a no brainer after that. The thick lace of the dress meant I needed something really fine and simple and the girls knew exactly what to suggest. I tried it on and knew straight away that it was perfect.

Nicholas Kirkwood. My absolute dream shoes!! As with the dress, I knew I wanted something different. I looked for months online and found nothing I liked, I was dreading going shopping because I thought it would be a struggle but I ended up being incredibly lucky. We went for breakfast in the city one morning, went into Miss Louise and found the most amazing laser cut leather heels. They only had one pair left which were luckily in my size!!! I had to have them.

I had four bridesmaids, all with very different styles so I decided early on that I wanted them to choose what they would wear

We were so incredibly blessed to have our friends Gayle and Susannah Murley create our cake for us. They worked from reference pictures and colour swatches we had from the girl’s dresses and created three tiers with chocolate mud and berry filling. Gold leafing and the watercolour lilac effects on were all done by hand to work back with the custom cake topper we ordered from Grain & Co.
